Sri Pattabhi teaches that there should be one breath corresponding to every single action or movement. The first Vinyasa should be inhaling corresponding to the first action while the next Vinyasa should be exhaling accompanied by the immediately following action.

Tristhana: This part is associated with the three sub-points posture, breathing and direction, which purifies the body, nervous system and mind respectively. The salient components of breathing system are Mula and Uddiyana bandhaa which are the lower abdominal and the anal locks that seal in energy and body strength.

Vital Aspect: The most vital part of the system is to wipe off the six harmful elements, affecting mental triggers kama (desire), krodha (anger), moha (delusion), lobha (greed), matsarya (envy) and mada (sloth) from the mind to attain spirituality. With all these successfully completed a person can enjoy the actual meaning of Ashtanga yoga.
